    {"id":1992,"date":"2010-12-07T09:33:01","date_gmt":"2010-12-07T14:33:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vault217.gmu.edu\/?p=1992"},"modified":"2012-01-10T16:13:26","modified_gmt":"2012-01-10T21:13:26","slug":"addition-to-sophocles-papas-collection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vault217.gmu.edu\/?p=1992","title":{"rendered":"Addition to Sophocles Papas collection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2010\/10\/22\/AR2010102200024.html\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Post article<\/a> by Anne Midgette explained the undeniable influence Sophocles Papas (1894-1986) had on classical guitar enthusiasm and academic guitar study in the Washington D.C. area. George Mason Special Collections and Archives is proud to be the steward of <a href=\"http:\/\/sca.gmu.edu\/finding_aids\/papas.html\" target=\"_blank\">Papas collection<\/a> which includes the personal papers of Papas. The collection consists of music and manuscript scores, phonograph records, correspondence, music journals, photographs, and guitar music manuals.<\/p>\n<p>An addition to the collection has been received from Papas\u2019 daughter Elisabeth Papas-Smith. This new series includes scrapbook style magazine and newspaper clippings, postcards, photographs, and stamps featuring guitar images in art and popular music.
