An image from SC&A’s Arthur O. Scott Photograph Collection was chosen for the Summer 2008 issue of the Mid Atlantic Archivist<\/em>, the quarterly publication of the Mid Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC)<\/a>. The image portrays members of the Youth Committee Against the War, a group which was part of the much larger Keep America Out of War Congress begun in 1938 to protest American involvement in the growing World War.<\/p>\n

The group of young people in this image is protesting the draft in Washington, DC on August 1, 1940.<\/p>\n

Arthur O. Scott started his career as a wire service photojournalist based in Washington, DC. Invited by Barry Goldwater to serve as staff photographer to the Republican Senatorial Committee, he eventually became the Senate’s photohistorian.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
