On June 19 former George Mason University president Dr. \u00c1ngel Cabrera sat down with Special Collections Research Center staff to record his recollections of seven years of service to the university. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the fifty-six minute interview Dr. Cabrera detailed how he was recruited, his initial interviews for the position of President of George Mason University, and what he had known about George Mason before applying. He detailed the mission statement and visioning process he led during his first year as President and his close work with the Board of Visitors and the City of Fairfax. He spoke about what he considered successes and challenges during his tenure and how the university has grown and become more accessible to an increasing number of college candidates. He also spoke about what we might expect to see in the future at George Mason. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the beginning of his tenure in July 2012, Dr. Cabrera has been a supporter of the University Libraries and the Special Collections Research Center. A true adherent of the collection and study of institutional history, he called upon the Center from time to time to assist him with historical information pertaining to the university for speeches, programs, and other university initiatives. So, we were not surprised to hear that he enthusiastically accepted our invitation to participate in the Oral History Program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
