He detailed the mission statement and visioning  process he led during his first year as President and his close work with the Board of Visitors and the City of Fairfax. He spoke about what he considered successes and challenges  during his tenure and how the university has grown and become more accessible to an increasing number of college candidates. A true adherent of the collection and study of institutional history, he called upon the Center from time to time to assist him with historical information pertaining to the university for speeches, programs, and other university initiatives.
