In order to protect and insure the continued accessibility of our holdings, Special Collections & Archives (SC&A) at George Mason University Libraries has made some changes to its policies governing the access and use of our materials. These changes have been implemented in accordance with the national standards and guidelines established by ALA’s Association of College and Research Libraries and the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (http://www.rbms.info/standards/index.shtml). These policies will be applied consistently to and enforced equally with all users with no exceptions.
For first-time users of SC&A collections, please expect to fill out a Researcher Registration Agreement with basic contact information. Anyone wishing to use SC&A materials will provide acceptable photo identification, which SC&A staff will photocopy for our records, as well as a signature on the Agreement verifying that the user has agreed to abide by the SC&A collections use policy and reading room regulations. After registering with SC&A the first time, users will not be required to register and complete the Agreement again.
Before the Researcher Registration Agreement was created, users completed a Research Interview Statement. The Statement is no longer in use and has been replaced by the Agreement. Users who filled out the previous Statement (but did not complete the new Agreement) will need to complete the Agreement.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to uphold national standards that provide the security to preserve our collections for current and future researchers.
