An image from SC&A’s Arthur O. Scott Photograph Collection was chosen for the Summer 2008 issue of the Mid Atlantic Archivist, the quarterly publication of the Mid Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC). The image portrays members of the Youth Committee Against the War, a group which was part of the much larger Keep America Out of War Congress begun in 1938 to protest American involvement in the growing World War.
The group of young people in this image is protesting the draft in Washington, DC on August 1, 1940.
Arthur O. Scott started his career as a wire service photojournalist based in Washington, DC. Invited by Barry Goldwater to serve as staff photographer to the Republican Senatorial Committee, he eventually became the Senate’s photohistorian.
