Former SC&A Graduate Research Assistant Accepts Archivist Position at GC&SU

Joshua Kitchens, a former student employee in SC&A, has accepted a position as Assistant Archivist in Special Collections (http://www2.gcsu.edu/library/) of the Georgia College & State University (http://www.gcsu.edu/) Library in Milledgeville, Georgia.

His responsibilities will include: development and evaluation of Special Collections services, collections, and programs; acting as University Archives coordinator; acquiring and processing university archives, manuscripts, and books; specialized reference and research services; organizing, cataloging, and describing holdings, creating MARC, EAD and web-based descriptive records; production of digital projects; evaluating the preservation needs of the collections; promoting the use of collections by students, faculty, and scholars through instruction, exhibits, publications and other means; and participating in general reference and research services for the campus and community.

Josh, who was employed by SC&A from August 2006 until April 2008, helped build the Planned Community Archives: Catherine A. Baum Digital Collection, (http://mars.gmu.edu/dspace/handle/1920/505) scanning digital objects, providing metadata for them, and maintaining the collection. Congratulations and good luck Josh!
